- Replace ordinary switches with Motion Sensors. This keep slight off when the room is empty.
- Replace incandescent light fixtures and lamps with fluorescent or LED. These use less power and are cooler. LED is the future. They have the lowest energy use of any lamp type.
- Replace older heating and air conditioning units with high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) units.
- Unplug electronic devices when they're not in use. Some electronics, such as televisions use up to 10 watts of energy when they're off but still plugged in. Also, unplug battery chargers when they're not charging a device.
- Consider a laptop instead of a desktop computer. Laptops can use 90% less energy.

- Install a programmable thermostat; during the summer set it higher when you are away, during the winter set it lower when you are away and set it lower overnight while you're sleeping.
